Oops
I decided to do something different today, so I chose a pretty long route which goes a bit outside of Trondheim, maybe it is 50-55 km in total. It all went fine until about 35 km when I lost one of my contact lenses (!). It kinda sucked to keep riding with one so I found the nearest bus stop and took a bus back home. But, it was interesting to do something different, to take a new route. It is certainly not one I'm used to, so it was refreshing in many ways. Think I kept an average of 20-25 km an hour, which isn't bad considering it was up and downs as well as some pretty rough tires on the bike.
Think I'll have to try that one again.

Here's hoping for Thor
Thor Hushovd might win the green jersey tomorrow, and it looks like he will win it unless something dramatic happens.AFAIK he'll be the first norwegian to win a jersey in "tour de lance", which is pretty cool. :)

New helmet
Since the repairs I did last week didn't cost as much as expected (40 dollars, instead of an expected 100-150 dollars) I decided to buy a helmet as well, a Giro Atlas II.It sits well on my rather large head, and the test run I did with it earlier today went well so I'm excited and think it was an OK deal.
Next year it'll be time to replace the chain and freewheel as they are getting old and worn. Maybe I'll get a new bike as well, I'm feeling an urge to start training and/or competing in some MTB-related communities. There should be more than enough places to play around in, that's for sure. I don't think bike racing is for me, as I'm rather .. wide over the shoulders and would probably catch too much wind. :)

Wheeling and dealing
This year I waited a long time to change wheels on the bike, as it hasn't been very warm yet. Now however, it's around 20-30 degrees celsius every day, so biking from here to there makes sense. It seems that the rear wheel has got an issue though, it moves slightly from side to side so it's probable that the ball bearing is busted. Which means some repairs are in order.
I'm sure the guarantee is out so it'll have to be paid for, but that's not so bad, it's been of good use for a while, and probably will be for a while longer. The bike as a whole is still solid and still looks good.
I'll be buying a Scott next time as well.

Old trusty
Old trusty ready to go. It's been around -10 degrees celsius today, so it should be interesting to go biking tomorrow or the day after.
Good thing I've got a balaklava and some lobster gloves!

Slippery slopes
Wow, today it was fairly dangerous to go biking. The front wheel let go several times on the soft snow.. good thing I medidated before I went:No, actually, I closed my eyes as I was taking the picture. Guess I was expecting a blitz or something ;)
The last couple two years I've been yearning to move back to a warmer climate, but now I'm enjoying the winter again. A little snow goes a long way..

Let it snow
Ok, I just had a great time biking downhill through 5-inch thick snow. I think there'll be some offpiste biking down snowy mountains this winter..[Permalink] [By morphex] [Biking (Atom feed)] [17 Nov 13:09 GMT+1]
Clip-in, push on, chill out
The clip-in pedals have been a positive experience. After two 45-minute test runs I must say that this will improve the way I pedal the bike.Maintaining a high speed seems like a breeze now, it's interesting how something simple as using the upward motion can radically improve the speed and stamina.
I think I'll have to adjust the clip-in 'pin' under the shoe though, and move it a bit farther towards the heal of the shoe as the foot felt strained after the test runs. Maybe it's just something you have to get used to. We'll see.

Gearing up
Just bought some new gear for the winter biking season: a set of shoes, clip-in pedals to go along and lobster gloves. Now all I need is coating for the shoes/lower part of the legs, and I'll be ready to blow through the snow.

Bike power-up
Got the bike back from the repair shop today, got the crank fixed, wires tightened up and brakes changed. They only charged for the brakes (which wasn't much) so I bought an extra running shirt (very light and doesn't get soaked like cotton shirts) which should be interesting to try out tomorrow.

Thor Hushovd first norwegian to hold yellow jersey in Tour de France

Yet another bike repair
I had to send in the bike for another repair this week, as the crank (and other small things) were broken. I'm wondering if it would be a good idea to buy more robust parts, or a new bike. In any case, it will be nice to get the bike back, it *is* a good bike, just not built for heavy use.It would certainly be a good idea to get an alternate set of summer tires, the ones on the bike now are a bit too rough for asphalt, slowing down the bike. I tried another bike with slick tires which made a world of difference.

Putting the kevlar on
I bought a new front-tire Tuesday, as the old one seems to be worn.. It's kevlar-based, or has kevlar in it. Definently lighter and softer than the old tire, and it's supposedly more resistant to punctures as well. Will be cool to try it out.[Permalink] [By morphex] [Biking (Atom feed)] [06 May 20:31 GMT+1]
Inflation-in-a-can
The front tire got punctured Saturday, so I got a chance to try out that inflate-a-tire-from-a-can thing I bought. It works.. that is, it does fill the tire, and the air doesn't seep out. Should be interesting to see if it works when I'm going to the gym afterwards. The front tire itself is pretty worn, meaning that a summer tire lasts 4-5 months (not much) so it should be changed as well.
The bike looks almost brand new (except for some rust on various bolts and screws), so the scrub-down was definently worth it. Relaxing too. :)
